Default Smooth Dogfish

Looks like a smooth doggie to me. No teeth or spines.

I believe Sam is right on that one, still nice catches, I have been out three times this year and each one I was skunked.

All right hit the beach today ( Friday ) Sam and Matt came out to join me in the afternoon. Matt you toss one heck of stick I don't think I've seen anyone put some waight out that far. Anyway not to much to say, the wind was kicking up all day till just about sun down when it slacked off a bit, as for fishing goes SKATE and one busted up rod. I had my 11.6 Tica snap about 1 1/2 feet down from the tip wile I was reeling in a rat. OH well what can you do, the best thing is when I got off the beach I stoped by Harbor Tackel and Bev said since it was not a year old she would replace it . Now all I can say is that is service no questions asked just sorry to see it happen, That's why I do all my bait and tackle at there store.

Matt hope to get to fish with you soon

Default David talked me into it yesterday. :)

As ocsnapper mentioned, I hit the beach yesterday with Matt (Pierman) and was it ever windy! 20-25 out of the N/W, but the water wasn't as dirty as I thought. The skates were out in full force and I lost count after a while.

I tried out my new 1509 and it felt great! It wasn't even comparable to the Tica 12'... Different water, folks.

Matt was casting his SWEET fusion rod and nearly spooling his reel it with just a sinker. I have never seen anyone cast that far before.

I stayed until after sundown, hoping for the lost striper, but she never showed up.

Hated to leave. Thanks again guys for the great time.

Fished AI from 6:30 AM until 11:00. All I caught was one skate and an attitude! Had some bite marks in a piece of cut bunker, but that's about it. Anyway, it was nice to be on the beach, even if it was incredibly calm. Maybe I'll try again this evening. Hopefully, things will get a little rougher.
I do have a question though, regarding how far to stay away from other fishermen. When the beach is as empty as it was this morning, I try to give at least 1/4 - 1/2 mile of space between others and myself. Well, someone today parked close enough to me that I could have easily thrown a stone and hit them. That just seemed a little discourteous to me. I know I don't own the beach, but when it's wide open, I like a little space. In the summer, I could understand somebody getting so close. Am I right or wrong?

First of all, welcome to the board. You are exactly right in your thoughts about distance on the beach. Unless I am fishing with someone, I will give them at least 1/4 mile. (except for tournaments and summer time) There is no excuse for that and it really is common sense.

Thanks for your report. Skate seem to be here and will probably stay for another week or two. They were very thick yesterday.

I agree Sam give space, unless fishing with a friend but some people just don't care. Have had people slam on brakes when catching blues and fish close enough that i could run to his end rod before i could get to my outside one

Thanks guys for validating what I've always tried to practice, whether it's here or OBX. What really got me were that they were AMSA members who should know better.
