Default Severn Run opening day

Scouted my stream down the street as it was stocked and opens tomorrow. Saw this thing I swear was longer than the stream is wide. Monster brood sp? trout. Guess she done did her thing over the years and served her purpose. Juts sitting in the shallows looking at me. Only a few holes to fish and she wasn't in any of them just in the open. Has to be 24 inches by 4 lbs. Hardly seems fun anymore but think I got to get up early for a spot. With clocks already sprung back guess it will be dark for an hour after the 5:30 open. You could see some gold trout in the holes. Talk about shooting fish in a barrel. If go after the beast I will lose out on getting a hole-decisions. I tried to spook her into a hole but she just came back to same spot. Biggest trout I ever saw. No room to fight a fish in those places so you got to use heavy 8# line and horse them in with all the logs and such. Meat fishin at its finest.

Awesome mental picture, Dave. Let me know how it goes! Looking forward to some good pics, even if you don't catch (which isn't humanly possible)

Well set up and limited very quickly before first light and monster not to be seen. Came back later after donating fish for C&R session and guy next to me using little 1/16oz grub hooked the monster. I mean there was a huge swirl and he thought it was a huge carp. I said no thats her, the one the only one. He had little perch rod and 4 lb line and he was a seasoned fisherman and knew it was just too big for his tackle. In Severn Run its loaded with logs, twigs and all so there is no way to wear a fish out in open water. He even had a net but that fish did what it wanted to and just no match. It finally just darted and snap. That thing was right below my feet. Biggest trout I ever saw. Told him he made my day just to watch. Wall hanger big time. I just wanted someone to catch it while I was there didn't even have to be me. Anyhow its still sitting in that deep hole with a twister lip ring. When everyone is pulling 11 to 12 in fish out and all of a sudden this lunker swirls at my feet. Awesome it was. Funny another guy was there said he watched DNR stock and he said that fish was stocked all by itself as it was only thing that would fit in the stocking bucket.
Tackle shops said there was 2 - 3 lbers, 3- 5 lbers and a 7 lber put in. Methinks it was the 7 lber and even bigger than the one I saw yesterday. Cool stuff to get the blood boiling down the street even if they are farm raised. BTW yellow perch were everywhere but can't keep them this side of Bay. Time to brine some fish for the smoker and go monster hunting later on.

Great story Dave - i've been avoiding my trout stream like the plague today - all kinds of powerbait dunkers swarming my yard like ants - ugh! Can't wait to have the stream back to myself and the wilds. Remember - "Friends don't let friends stock streams with wild populations!"

Monster update- Went back to catch few remaining fish and heard the monster got hooked twice since I left. She is only hitting artificials and worms. Well this beast has 2 more hooks in its mouth which makes 3 total I know of. 4 lb test in those stumps aint working. I use my bass rod and 6 or 8 lb in that stream cause you got to horse em out of there.
