Sam, Heading out thurs. My feet should hit the sand before 8:30 am,,,Come on out! The ocean should be better, but I am still a little concerned of the amount of current that may be out there that day. Some big time weather action occurring in the western atlantic (tropical storms). We will have to wait and see but I think 10oz or smaller should hold. I have got to make myself some 12's or even 14's! One thing is for sure, I liked the look of the ocean today, just didn't have enough weight to hold.

Fished today and caught many dogies and skates. I had one screamer and was hoping for a red but after 15 secs, gone. Leader broken,,,shark. It was taking line out in a hurry and was glad to have the excitement, tho short lived.

Bummer. They sure can keep you busy. I'm headed out tonight. Maybe they will have had enough of your bait for today.

Limited out on dogfish and skates tonight too.
![]() It was a picture perfect night as far as the environment is concerned. Gentle winds, no moon, stars, fishy looking water. I did get a nice size shark on a live kingfish. I got him inside the bars and he chomped throug the leader. :? We (dad and I) caught a few kings for the freezer.

The first red drum was caught Saturday, September 10, 2005 on Assateague. One of my customers came in and told me that Dave "Critter Gitter" Swenson hooked it. He said the fish was 40 something inches. Congratulations Dave.

I just got home from a 12 hour Assateague Drum hunt with Coop. We caught lots of skates, small sharks, a bluefish (Scott's) and no drum. I did have a bit of excitement around 9am when my rod doubled over and something started taking line. By the time I got to it, nothing, no bait... I think it was because my hook was dull. :?
It couldn't have been a nicer night. The stars were beautiful, one was even shining different colors like blue, red, white, green! It was very pretty, but kind of odd. Those red drum are very elusive... I'm gonna get one soon.

I fished another 10 hours with Steve and Dad tonight. I caught a large cownose ray around 6pm. It fought pretty hard at first and I thought it might be big red. :? Nope... Dad caught a 5-6 ft spinner/blacktip around 10pm and it bite through his leader before we could beach it, but we had it in the wash.. That was a surprise for sure.
The water was warm and the breeze was coming off the ocean, so we were soaked by the time we left. We all caught the usual skates and doggies. I talked with Dale Timmons at the pumps for a few minutes. He said that he had caught a few sandbars before high tide in the afternoon. I'll be glad when the real fishing picks up. It was nice seeing you again, Steve. Thanks for coming down, buddy.
