You got it - this "fling" is just a chance to get together meet other members and fish together, eat some good food, etc - there may be an informal contest for the bigest thing caught without wings or something like that - but the emphasis is on socializing and fishing.

Sounds like some of you are trying to convince the g/f, wife, or mother ...

bring them along.. I have not always been into fishing until I started tagging along, maybe they'll find they like it, and even if they don't fish they'll have fun socializing and talking...

Plus, I won't feel like such a minority ... it might be nice to meet some other women down here...
