Default Fish Tails

Since I haven't fished in a few weeks I feel the need to spread a tale or two. If you have one fantastic tale tell it here....Here's mine.......

While fishing under the Kent Narrows Bridge (separates the Eastern Bay and the Chester River) with a buddy of mine we were catching some nice Strippers (18 to 28 inches) on artificials. The tide moves pretty darn fast thru there so you have to be a little bit carful in placeing your anchor. Well I hooked into the mother of all fish and it started to run with the tide. It was ripping line from my 14pound test like crazy. I called to my buddy to pull up the anchor and we had to chase this fish. Well at about this time while tring to remove a lure from a fishes mouth that he had just caught (he was using a Gotcha Plug) the fish does a flip on him and ends up imbedding the hook in his hand ..............He lets out a yelp and a need for help and I had a decision to make what the hell do I do with the fish and how do I help my friend?....I put the rod in the rod holder with line still leaving the spool at an alarming rate jumped into the front seat of the boat to take a look at his hand. Luckly the fish had fallen off the hook and the hook was only imbedded in his skin ...so with a little protest from him I pushed the barb thru his skin and snipped it off.

Being a good sport he pulled the anchor up and off we went to bring in the mother load.....After a great fight we brought it along side the boat and shined the light down on it and thats when all the steam left me. It was a Stripper allright but it was a 26"foul hooked in the side. We just sat down in the boat and started to laugh all that work for nothing....But it made for a great story later on Well I hope ya liked it and if ya want to add another feel free..........

Talking

Pretty good, Tom.

I was fishing on AI one summer afternoon and one of my rods bends over and starts peeling line. I grabbed it and started the fight. After about 5 minutes, I am straining to see what I might have caught and I see a white stick in the waves directly in front of my line. I thought to myself, "I must have gotten snagged up with some stick while fighting this critter". As I reeled in more, I realised that I had caught another fishing rod! I got that rod in and it had something on it! It wouldn't reel, so I backed up and saw I had a big ray on. Anyway, I don't know how many others have caught a fishing rod, but to catch one with something on it is quite rare...

What is even funnier, about a year later I was talking with Coop and he said that he had lost a rod in the surf just about that time and that is what got him interested in shark fishing.

Could it be?

March, dont remember exactly what year, COLD First thing in the morning ya know when you cast out ice forms on your guides!!! BIG shiners as bait!!!! littlepoles, 7ft with mitchell somin # on them, I was fishin for Stripers which were stocked a while back and I knew they had to be gettin big. Oh it was when the moritorium was going on so even if I caught one I coulndnt keep it. I was fishing a point with 3 rods BIG shiners the rods were propped up on sticks. Sitting on 5 gallon bucket in my Carhart suit watchin my poles get jerked from the BIG SHINERS turn my head to sea what was coming up in back of me heard a noise in the water turned around and one of my poles was flying in the water! SHYTE! Saw the V and went for it as I reached out for the pole it vanished ran out waist deep and saw somin reached down and the reel caught my hand! Realizing where I was I backed up and as I backed up the pole almost flew out my hand I WAS HOOKED UP! fought that fish standing in the water slowely backing up landed it as I was also hitting dry land. 12 lb Striper! All the time I was fighting this fish, standing in the water, ICE COLD, there was a lady in back of me. She was the reason I took my off the poles to begin with, Shes yelling the whole time ya know if thats a Rock ya cant keep it, OVER and OVER I un-hooked the fish and gave it a kiss dropped it back in the water turned to the lady and thought THROW HER IN JUST GO GRAB HER AND THROW HER IN!!!!! But cold soaked and happy I packed up and left! Hope you never have to walk in a drenched insulated Carhart suit it aint fun

Default Dewey Beach early 1980s

Fall mid Nov COLD, fishin for them monster blues off the beach! Rain mixed in with snow been out since 7am with a couple of people I knew back in the day, couple small fish nothin big.

We were fishing at the last road which is still public beach and then starts the houses and the private beach, A guy walks up and starts saying he has been watching us from the house and wants to know what we were using for bait. Cob mullet and told him where to get it. He leaves and a hour later walks out on the beach with a rod sand spike a bucket tackle box and rigs up. He was dressed for the weather chest waders rain coat ect. After baiting up he walks out into the ocean about up to his waist and I look at my friend he already has this smile on his face and I just smile dude goes to cast and Whamo this frickin wave busts him and he is gone!!! We run over to where he was catch a glimse of him about 20 ft down the beach and here he comes rolling up on the beach like he was rollin down a ski slope after yur skis go out from under ya! Man a beached DUDE! NO more fishin pole gone, He just lays there We walk over he wouldnt look at us at first then he just rolls over and says yea im ok sand in his mouth, hair, blood from his nose, water running out his waders tell him to get up hes gonna get washed again he says alright and we get him up drag him away from the water he just sits there for about an hour while we go back fishin and then he leaves. Just before dark he comes back he doesnt talk to us he just gathers whats left of his gear and leaves. Now I know what your thinking BUT IT WAS FUNNY AS SHYTE!!!!!!!

Gotta watch those waves.. They can sneek up on you, especially on colder days.

I have another story.............I was fishing in Wilmington NC. (Wrightsville beach I think it was) off one of the Piers on the beach there. I had just caught a pin fish and hooked it on a larger rod I had set up for "big fish" I cast it out and leaned it against the rail there. I loosened up the drag and started to make small talk with one of the locals. He asked me what I had on . I told him a pin fish. He looked at me and said"If I was you I would tie thatt rod down " I told him that I had the drag really loose and that if a fish hit it wouldn't hurt at all.......welll I no sooner said that then the rod starts to really rip line out and bend over . Now I can move pretty fast but this night it looked like slow motion ....from the time that fish hit to the time it took me to go all of 4 feet to the rod....line ripped out so fast that the drag couldn't keep up with it and over my rod went into the Atlantic. It was kinda funny cause I was just inches from grabbing it!!!!I was in shock. I took my other rod and tied on a big ol treble hook with some weight on it..I wanted my rod back it was one of my oldest and best rods. I threw the treble hook out there and started to drag the bottom. For all I know that rod could have been half way to England by now. After the 4th or 5th cast I hit pay dirt I caught the line. I started to pull it in and there at the waters edge was my rod!!!

It took me a while since the drag was soo loose to get it in but I got it ,minus the fish that took it in.

Caught another Pin fish and tried it again ....but this time I tied that puppy to the railing. Had one hit and that was it for the night

I'll never forget the slow motion of that rod falling into the ocean and me inches away.....Thats my story...............
