for the most part, be very anal about your lights at night...ESPECIALLY around other people.
If you can run with just your parking lights do it. Now if you are ALONE on the beach and think it will help I think you are okay but you really need to be ALONE.

There really is no clear winner. Different people have different likes.
As for leaving headlights or other flooding type lights on, no, haven't seen it happening. These lights will ruin your night vision. Most of the avid fishers will use a small light mounted on elastic or rubber that goes on your head. Most use a red lamp, others use white or green. You can also rig up a red or green light pointed at your cutting board or "work area" in the back of your truck/vehicle. During summer Sharking, lights are not as big a factor, some people will leave a light on when they yak out baits at night. The best thing to do is to keep white lights away from anyone you approach on the beach. Keep it away from the water too.

Personally, I like some light in my fishing area from a lantern or flashlight because I cannot see worth a crap at night and I don't like hooks flying around when I reel in. I also have not done alot of night fishing and have not caught large at night.
However, most of the seasoned rock and drum fishermen will tell you they use as little light as possible when they fish. There seems to be a consensus that light will spook the fish as they come in much closer at night. Driving at night on the beach requires that you use your headlights, in my opinion, because there is so much you can run over that can puncture a tire. Also, you could drive into a hole. Just make sure you drive well away from the water, near the dunes. Main thing is you don't want to flood someone else's area with light if you can help it. Whether you use light is a personal choice. |
