Default Chunkin' the surf

Typically, when fishing bunker noggins from a boat, we cut the body into chunks and toss about 1 fish every 15 minutes or so to attract nearby stripers.

Is there a way to achieve this effect on the beach?

Potato gun? Wrist rocket?

you know, I tried that multiple rod thing this past weekend. Only had 3 out but I ran into a problem. What the heck do you do when both rods are trying to breakout of their spikes at the same time ?

Btw 2 skates on. Lost one while trying to pull the other one to land.

I would be heartbroken if both my spools where zipping line and had a running fish on each pole at the same time. Well maybe not heartbroken

I should be so unfortunate......
Well, with a light drag, they won't run forever before they slow down.
Hopefully have a whole lotta' line on the reel.

make sure the reels are in bait feeder mode or the drags are set very lightly, just enough to hold against the surf.

I had this very same thing happen to me last spring. Had out 3 rods...got one knockdown and started with the fish, the other rod went down. Well I couldn't do anything about the second rod so I kept with the first one. It turned out to be a 37" striper. I threw it on the beach and ran over to the second rod...it had stopped singing but was still bent over. The fish had spooled me down to the arbor knot! It was a fairly small reel, anyway I started with the second fish. Pretty cool having one striper on the beach and working on another...except this turned out to be a ray.

Anyway if you set your spikes in deep and set the drag right you will be ok.

#1 buy more rods

#2 I chunk and salt my bunker and keep it in small bins on ice but as the day rolls on I will get rid of the older stuff as long as I have enough. Most of the time it's on the outgoing. I'll be set up at or near a cut so as the tide rolls out I walk out as far as is safe and start chunking my older baits out. I can't tell you if it works but it doesn't hurt.

#3 I carry and have tried the sling shot method, watch for splatter!!!! Nothing like bunker goo all over your face.

the surf will barf it right back at you either driectly or when the current takes it down the beach. Sounds simple, but I learned the hard way.

I tell ya guys, I'm kinda diggin' the potato gun idea.

Wad up some chunks in some T.P., and blast 'em out there....

Yeah, I had mentioned the tater shooter last year but it would prolly birds nest some of the reels. That thing discharges, well, like a shot....
A skeet launcher is a little slower on the toss, might work, dunno'.
Sorry, but my favorite is still the R/C chopper...
