Smile Fishing reports November 8 to 14

There were some scattered reports of stripers on the beachfront but things seem to be a little quiet for this time of the season,,,hopefully the next two week things will really start going for the striper tourney.

Feel free to post your reports here, fish or no fish.

Fished AI from 5:00pm Friday - 4:00am Saturday....pretty quiet..caught 1 skate. About 11:30pm I had dozed off for a minute and was awakened to find one of my rods out of the sand spike about 30' down the beach ...I quickly gained control of the rod and began to reel in the slack. I was about 50 yards down the beach before I began to feel the pull. I was able to get it in to the breakers and then...snap .. I lost it . . I'm guessing maybe it was a drum but not sure. Anyway, 2 lessons learned: stay awake and be patient. Look forward to fishing in the striper tounament next weekend. Good luck to all anglers!

Fished friday,,,4am until 3pm,,,at 7 am had one medium size striper that I lost right on the beach,,,rookie mistake,,,swam into 2 of my lines and decided to try to beach her while tangled in my lines,,,line broke,,,had a major 2 year old temper flare up,,,I think the people next to me thought I was a nut,,,kicking my 5 gallon bucket all over kingdom come ,,,yep I was mad!,,,8 times out and still nothing,,,I stink!,,,but heck, it was a nice day on the beach.

Tom, welcome to the site,,,sorry to here the snap,,,looked like it was contagious,,,I will not make that mistake again,,,you learn alot from mistakes surf fishing,,,when you fish for hours and that one fish comes along, you got to make it count.

Matt, at least you beached one,,,I forgot what one looks like up close.

Keep at it guys! Next time you will beach those fish.

At least it seems like the action is finally picking up. No blues yet?

Maybe we can keep the judges busy in Sam's tourney next weekend!

Default Oma's Opinion

Scott, you are my fishing hero. If you aren't catching - they are not there to be caught. Zech said something interesting yesterday concerning large mouth and small mouth bass in the winter. He said, "Mom - the big ones are on the move first." Does that hold true with stripers? Our weather has been very warm, so I'm thinking the stripers are just not moving our way yet. Are the few that have been caught loners - heading out ahead of the pack. I do have a question about bait fish. If the weather is staying warm north of us - does that mean the bait fish haven't moved our way yet?

Whatever the answer is, I feel it is the fish - not YOU!

I'm having fishing withdrawal. I was even jealous hearing about the smallie Zech caught yesterday . . . . Can't wait to get out on that beach.

By the way - it is good to hear that somebody else besides Oliver has tantrums. When I was fishing with Zech in September he lost a big bass and I had all I could do to talk him out of tossing his rod into the water. And we have all seen Oliver's reaction to losing a fish. So here, all this time, I've felt like such a bad mother for raising sons who lose it when they miss a big one. Guess it is a fishing thing - not a personality problem!!!!! Don't worry - I won't bring along the soap. Ask Oliver about that one!

Oceanoma,,,I think they are here and some are being caught but many are putting 2 or 3 days straight for a fish or two,,,not exactly killing them,,,many may be well off the beach zone,,,sometimes the stink follows you and I have it bad right now,,,I am hoping to shake this big time stink this weekend,,,should be able to put in time, I hope to be able to get out 2 or 3 days this week,,,I think we still have plenty of time to catch some large,,,I would think at least another month, so get out there and fish!

not much to report, fished Thursday 6:00pm-Sat 7:00am straight through except for an hour bait run. Up north and down south on AI. Only heard of one fish caught the entire time, it was next to me when I went on my bait run.

Friday night I was catching monster skates on live eels...weird. I'd pull them in skate on the hook and eel still alive. Friday afternoon looked rediculous out there. 100+ trucks in 4 miles of beach, down by the BP I could count more then 50 rods within 150 yards of me either way. But hey, what can you expect when you are fishing in a bathing suit on November 10th. One good thing about the close proximity fishing was that it was slow and I got to meet a bunch of folks from different boards. Good times, see you in April!

Sorry about your skunk, Ben. It happens to the best of us. You just have to be there at the right place at the right time... You are a very diligent fisherman and it will pay off soon.

Default On the island Sat. & Sunday

We went over to AI this past weekend (11th-12th)
Sat. no catch but did hook up on one small rockfish on Sunday morning.
We saw many shootin' stars on Sat. night!!
The moon was awesome as well and then we were given a beautiful ' light show' off shore as there was much lighting in the sky!!
What a beautiful night on the island!!
Now just need some fish!!!

Default AI 11/13

Sunday night was too severe for me (30 mph winds and driving rain), so hit AI today 6am - 3pm instead....

WHOLE LOTTA NOTHIN'...well....I did catch a seagull - got me really excited waking up from a daydream to hear my drag sing like that. A(least it reminded me what the sound was like!)

Unfortunately that excitement soon faded when I saw the gull flopping around in the wash...line was cut everyone went home safe

Well, just wasn't in the cards for me this time.. Not sure If I'll be back this fall, but you can bet I'll be hitting it up again in the spring!
