Fantastic story, giving me hope for this weekend. Do you have any idea how long the fight was with that critter?

Dad fished 2:15am - 8:00am this morning, about 6 miles down the beach from the ORV. He's not caring for the bunker, so its getting soft. No big deal, he'll get more today. According to him, COLD wind blowing and no bites.....He'll warm up, get some coffee, grab some fresh bunker (he won't let get wet this time) and head back out probably somewhere between 10-12

Longer then 20 min and less then 30 min would be my guess, it took a good bit of line before I got there.

Catching that ray actually helped, I got to know how much pressure I could put on the fish with my new rigs before my lines failed. I also didn't spool up real well initially because on the ray my mono was cutting into itself, after I broke off I made sure to put it on TIGHT. I also gained a lot of confidence in my knots and terminal gear which I was hoping would hold up but had no way of really knowing.

Next time I'm going to tie on to one of my dogs collars and toss out a tennis ball, that will test my gear and my drag washers!

you know- when you catch a big fish, one of the common everyone always asks is "how long was the fight" and, of course, the last thing I'm thinking about when I hear a reel scream is to look at my watch...I'm wondering if I could make my millions by inventing a rig that automaticaly started a timer when the hook is set...

That would ruin a whole bunch of fish stories.....because you know a 10 min fight is automatically a 30 min fight once the story gets told
