Default Camping on AI

Me and my girlfriend just recently got into camping in tents and that whole deal...actually turned out to be pretty fun, especially when you camp near a good fishing hole! But back to the point, where on AI are you able to camp overnight or a weekend in tents and allowed camp fires and all that? Is the fishing any good around these campsites???

You can camp at the south end beachside. Just over the dune from the water. I don't know about open fires there but you can have one at the top of the ORV. Look through their rules.
All the same fish are there as they are in the ORV area.

I have camped at AI in the past, the one about a mile down the ORV. Very cool place to camp its a bit of a hike or better yet take a canoe and paddle in(less walking) but I would highly recomend early spring or late fall. The bugs in the summer are EVIL!!!!!!!!!!

I have never used anything that actually works to keep em away. Only abstinence from the place.

I camp there from time to time....Long Pants really help out with the bugs, but those flies can bite straight through a Tshirt. Mosquitos can be bad as well. I've found a TON of Citronella torches around a campsite will help keep those away, but be careful when walking out of your campsite, those thirsty things are waiting just on the other side of your barrier waiting to attack. The campsites are great, there are no campfires allowed in the campsites....but they do have Grills for cooking and firewood is often burned in them. I love camping there, I've camped both in campers and in tents and find both perfectly fine. If you are a creature of comfort it may not be the place for you. There is no electrical and generators are only allowed in certain areas, but have to be turned off by a certain time (10pm-7am I believe) so it can get quite toasty in a camper at night during the summer.....

Default different sites....

I am thinking of camping down at AI over the Columbus weekend in Oct. I noticed there are two places to camp. The NAtional Park Service - Assateague Island National Seashore, and the Assateague state park.

You can only reserve drive-in Ocean front camping at the AINS one and state park is first-come-first-served. The reserveable ones are all full already!....what are my chances at the State Park and how is the fishing there? Anyone ever stay there and compare? I am taking the wife and a bunch of friends that do not fish and wanted to car camp and not rough it too much, but I was interested in the fishing. Will the bugs be bad around Oct 7th?....fish good then?

Should I bother to bring the Kayak?

Any help would be appreciated.

State Park, I don't like, specifically because I have dogs. They are not allowed in the state park. You can reserve site on AINS, I do it all the time. Just go to http://reservations.nps.gov/parkResu...token=56591832 and click the one you want. If they aren't available it will tell you no sites are available that weekend. Go area by area and hopefully you'll find some. $20 a night and prepay online with your card...
