If your fishing with friends at night just take turns getting in a nap that way there is always someone up fishing...if the ranger stops well then you might get a ticket..As for fishing by yourself there's not much you can do there have been many times that I have nodded off just got lucky that they did not stop.

I would think as long as you are out with your rods they won't stop to check you out. Go in the the truck and you'll get a look over. I slept in the car through the night 2 weeks ago but it was a freaking hurricane that night so I don't think the rangers were even out.

I know the rangers are just doing their job, but come on... some of us are there 3-4 times a week, you would think they would be more friendly to the people who are not out tearing it up but trying to find a little serenity and a few(well ok alot) of fish.

I think the no sleeping rule on the beach at night is a good one, tho I have nodded off on many occasions,,,I think if anyone could sleep on the beach, we would have crowds like you wouldnt beleive,,,along with what comes with the crowds,,,no thank you.

Valid point Coop. For the Tourney in Sept, we plan on finding a spot that is producing something, then rotating in shifts back to the camper in the bayside campground. I don't think "nodding off" while fishing is what they have in mind by prohibiting sleeping on the beach. If it were, no one would go out there, how many women during the summer do you see laying out on the beach catching a nap????? If it were just sleeping then they'd have a problem with everyone. I think its soley to prevent people from camping on the beach, and everything above that is just someone being over zealous.

Jeff, if you have rods in the water and nod off, they will wake ya and give you a warning, next time, a ticket, which I find a little rediculous at times, especially when there is literally no one on the beach and it's the off season,,,also, it's a nighttime thing, ok to sleep during the day,,,as far as nodding off when fishing, they are more strict during the busy season and a little more laid back in the off season,,,for the tourney, hope to do the same and do shifts,,,I can get away with 3 hours of sleep a day for a few days, with a cat nap here and there,,,took off all day monday, so I can recoop from lack of sleep,,,I am really looking forward to the tournament this year.

I would have to disagree....
Sunday morning I nodded off in a beach chair at 5.30am right after resetting all the lines. I woke at 6.00am with ranger rick standing in front of me.... He made me pull my lines and checked the baits, all where freshly baited. His comment was "Since you where fishing and appear to have accidentally drifted off, I'll just write you a ticket, not everybody else".... Great... Thanks. What could I say. It was better than all five of us getting ticketed as everybody else had crawled in the trucks and passed out long before. I thought I would be a prime canadate for the warning... Guess not. $75 bucks worth of nap. 1/2hour at $75 = $150/ hour for a nap... Those are some steep rates on the zzzzz's... O well. live and learn. First time in four years that I have been hassled. |

There seems to be one ranger who really doesnt use much of his own discretion,,,not saying he is wrong for giving the ticket, but I would think a warning would be the first appropriate action,,,at the time you suggested, was it daylight?,,,I always thought napping was ok during the day,,,maybe only on certain hours,,,anyone shed some light on napping during the day?
