Default Automatic Tranny?

Ok, so My explorer has a check engine light, it turns out that its the "Overdrive Band Failed Off" code causing it. I've read a couple articles on band adjustment, however haven't found one on band replacement yet.....Is this something anyone has done before????? Oh and Randy, I may need to give you a shout this week for the parts, I'll let you know.

fishaholic, sounds to me your going to have to drop the tranny, I have a 96 explorer and the same thing happened, had to drop the tranny to repair it. I hope I am wrong but either way it is real expenive, cost me 2400 and I removed the tranny and reinstalled it. The older model explorers especially 96 were prone to tranny failure, due to ford setting the shift points on the electronic tranny way to light to give a smooth ride, unfortunatley your tranny will wear out prematurely, if you get it fixed get a performance chip and set the tranny shift points a little later, it will give you a firm shift that you will feel but it will also prevent it from happening again.

I'm pretty sure from the research I've done that the tranny is different......2400???? You could've gotten a new tranny for that much. What ended up costing so much?

I figured while it was out I would rebuild all the internals. softbands hardbands solenoids, etc. I havent had any problems since, after 40 k not to bad.
