Default Just got a new kayak

I just got my first kayak from my wife for my birthday and plan to use it to start yaking out baits. It is an 11' 8" Mainstream Kingfish sit in top. I was wondering if that is an appropriate size for me. I am 5'10" and like i said i plan to use it to take out through the surf. Thanks

Default Cool!

That sounds like a good yak. The main thing to consider is the boyency in the surf. Make sure it has holes for the water to run out so you don't sink yourself. I believe the weight limit is 300lbs for that yak, but that may vary in surf conditions.

Yea it has a lot of drain holes and i figured a sit on top would be good because it wonld fill up if i sink it. After going to the fling last night i decided i had to have one

A short kayak is the way to go for the surf becouse you can turn the kayak fast.

Put some rod holders on the yak and troll for stripers beyond the surf.

Nope it is not too big at all. 14 and 16 footers are very common if not the prefered lenghts for the big lake.
