Surf fishermen have been catching a summer mix of small species in the surf, particularly in the early morning hours. Kingfish, croakers and spot have been biting on bloodworms or Fishbites. Kingfish, flounder and snapper blues are being caught on small cut strip baits also. At night a certain fraternity of fishermen turn out for heavy weight shark fishing in the surf and they do catch some big ones at times. This is mostly a catch and release fishery and offers fishermen a real tussle for their efforts. Sam Kilgore caught and released this sand tiger shark that stretched out at over 7’ in length and was estimated to be over 200 lbs in weight last week at Assateaguethis may go to his head after a while now if you can just get the site mentioned in there ![]()
