That's what I plan to use for the fling... but I would like to set up something that I can also use to lock them in, so if on vacation or whatever I can leave the rods on the truck and not sweat them walking away.

How about a flat pc of aluminum stock (1/2"?? wide???) with a small hole drilled on 1 side to accept a screw. This will act as a hinge (in a way) to swing it on a 90/180 to Remove the rods. Place the aluminum on the flat surface of your rode holder. On the other end of the aluminum stock make something to accept a lock? OR - Drill a hole in your rod holder. Make the aluminum stock LONGER than your rod holder so it goes past the end. Make your hole somewhere close to the end of your rod holder and use a long shakled lock that will go thru the wooden rod holder and drop down. In the middle of the Lock will be the aluminum part you fabricate. By doing this - you won't be able to Swing the aluminum without unlocking the lock. Make sense? The alum bar will eliminate anyone stealing your rods. I can see it - I can draw it - not sure if I am explaining my thought properly.

looks good Oliver,,,I like that with your long bed,,,I have the same trac rac, I used pvc tubing with bolts connected to the rack,,,looks like the tube is just sitting on the rack,,,I am still trying to figure how to put my sand spikes on top of the trac rac,,,they are so long that I have to put them diagnol in the bed,,,would like to get them on top so I can have more room in the bed.

If you don't have time to line the aluminum stock with felt I would go with a softer material like wood. So sense in scratching up your rods so and I think I'd use an actual hinge instead of just a pivot screw, it'll be a little more sturdy I think.
