Default Bait deployment system help

Ok so I need some help perfecting my system here.

I think this paint drawing may be the funniest thing I've seen but it is better to describe what I've put together. I have a 350+ yard loop of weedeater line that I am using as a type of outrigger for my baits, attached on that are 2 cannon type downrigger clamps that will release when the chark takes the bait. I didn't go with outrigger clips since they would be more likely to release under the current. I'm working on a better way to pulley the baits out but for now it's pretty much hand over hand. What this does for me is gives me a big bucket of chum out in the shark zone along with making sure my baits are nearby and fresh. I will have the clips spaced so there is no interference between the baits. Based on the current I will place the rods upcurrent of the outrigger so that the baits are not looped over top op their own line on the way out or while they are set.

I've thought of a bunch of issues with this working but number one is a way to make sure the baits don't get tangled in the rigger wire on the way out. I think the only solution is to balloon the baits to get them off the bottom and away from all other lines but this will keep them off the chum also. There will be no weights on the lines, the chum bucket and it's anchor will serve as that.

The whole thing cost me about $130 so far so it better work...all this because I'm too much of a wimp to yak bloody bait in the dark over chum. What this gives me is one kayak trip and then endless on shore re-deployment. What do ya'll think about my tangle issue? Any ideas?

I'll be trying it out for the first time tomorrow night, I'll have a full report on Monday with pics.

Man, this is something I'm going to have to see in person. Cool picture.

the idea is sound...it's the execution that may need work.

It just dawned on me that if I got stiff/heavy enough malin and put that in the clamp it should stay pretty much perpendicular to the rigger line the whole way out...thoughts? Don't know how heavy I'd have to go for that though.

I like it! Some experimentation and tinkering will surely be needed, but I do think you've hit on a promising idea!!!!

First, let me say that your drawing of the waves looks like a dorsal and tail of old charkey, funny!

It looks pretty good and I know you will be tweaking it here and there.
Charks are normally in two zones; at or near the bottom and at or near the surface. If you can get the actual baited hooks in those zones it would be better. Also remember that skates and rays are generally bottom feeders, they tend to hug the bottom. So keeping the bait above them would be good.

In addition, since you'll have your running lines so close to the bucket's running line there may be a problem with tangle. You will need to guess at the depth where you plan to have your bait so you can have the proper length of line for the bait to drop to (near) the bottom. The near surface bait will be easy.

It really looks like a great start, can't wait to see the final product.

What about one of those fish finder/depth watches. Just a thought

now we're talking! sonar via chum bucket! I'll just mount one of those underwater cameras on the bucket and you can watch the Chark eat the bait and pull the bait away from the skates. Totally joking but that would be pretty cool...

maybe adding something like a windlass to the shore end could help with the deployment, have the runinf line wrap around it 4 or 5 times and just turn a handle.

als maybe 2 weights @ 10 feet apart, so that running lines stay seperated
