Default Susquehanna ? for the Pa' ers

Did you ever fish the park right on the North end of Harrisburg on Front street? Looks pretty fishy, plus you can see the statue of Liberty from the bank of the river.

I think Nate might have - I remember him mentioning something about the statue...(we'll wait for him to weigh in on this).

If you want to try it - I'm about ready for another trip to harrisburg...You looking at that for smallmouth or catfish or what?

I was up there over the weekend(no poles along:icon_twisted: ) and there was a fella out about 50 yards in the water and the water was only up to his thighs. Probably a good mix of fish in there. There was alot of grass beds. Bass, catties, whatever is biting I'm up for. I think some minnows and nightcrawlers oughta do the trick. All this rain may mess with the fishing though.

Yeah - this week could cause issues with streams and rivers, but sometimes it can help if it doesn't get too flooded/muddy - when water levels rise and wash things into the stream fish can go into a frenzy...but then turn off as their bellies are full...i've caught trout and bass in water that looked like a mocha latte, but its definitely a lot tougher...

I agree about the muddy water working both ways. I was fishing Marsh Creek a couple of weeks ago. Ever fish there? Caught a few largemouths and a cattie, then around dusk the ranger cruised the lake causing a wake to crash the shoreline pretty good, enough to muddy it up, next thing I know I got a heckuva hit. I think it was a musky, by the looks of what was left of my minnow with its eyes popped out ... also, I released a gut hooked bass. Bout 12 inches. When it swam away kinda stunned, BAM, something big nailed it. The bass was just sitting there tail sticking out of the water a little, stuck in the mouth of something big. All I could see was a little swirl of water caused by the big fishies tail. My guess was a Muskie about 30 inches or more nailed that Bass. Struggle for life continued for about 5 mins then they were both gone.....

wow - kind makes you wish you still had your line attached to it ;)

There's an idea - live lining largemouth bass for musky! "Big Bait, Big fish" right?

From what I understand, that would be legal, if the bass is of legal size to keep. Correct me if im wrong. On a side note, I think there are some HUGE muskie in some of these lakes. Just need to target them with appropriate gear. Like livelining largemouths.....

from what i understand, you cannot use largemouth as bait. Just like in California......you can keep trout and do whatever you want with them, you just cant live line them.

Bummer eh?

Got me digging through the PA fishing licence book and on page 6 top right, it states....

"Baitfish includes minnows, suckers, chubs, fallfish, lampreys, eels, between 6 and 8 inches, gizzard shad 8 inches or less and all forms or darters, killifishes and stonecats(except endangered or threatened species). Legally taken gamefish may be used as bait. It is unlawfull to posess goldfish, comets, koi, and common carp as baitfish while fishing."

works for me.

I think this is a change from the past. Because I remember it used to be a no no to use sunfish as bass bait. In PA anyways. Good change IMO...

Hmmm I know of people that use bluegills for catfish.... Never did it myself, though - and never looked it up in the rule book.
