Dry dog food, or dog biscuits. Works every time.

all the above + hard pretzels, left-over crab shells(from dinner) and "day-old" squid that forgot to go back on ice

i believe that bread, crackers, pretzel and yes even dry dog food will expand in theor stomachs and suffocate them- i am sure those of you that have used anything that has yeast in it will atest that your bait either dies with swollen bellys or throws up and then dies with in a few days.

There for I have found that the absolute best bait for a minnow trap is crab-
next would be chicken liver.....then canned pet food

Chicken Livers - just one or two - buy a pound and freeze them individually.

Be advised I've even caught them in a bait-less trap though.

Crackers, Pretzels, and dry food get saturated and expanded from sitting in the water. I've never had a problem with deadloss and have been using dog food for 20 years.
