Default I can't believe I am trying this tomorrow!!!

I am gonna be at a buddy's house at 5:00am in the morning to make the trek up to Deep Creek Lake. Gonna try icefishing!!! He has all the gear, jigging rods, augers, even the portable shanties. There is 5" of ice now and getting thicker as we speak. The only fly in the ointment is a possible snow storm tomorrow evening. Gonna hit Western Maryland first I suppose. If the present forecast holds then we are on!

I will bring my camera.

Don't be silly steve - he's not using a boat- he'll be wading, swinging a pick axe in front of him as he goes.

Well back from Deep Creek. That ice fishing game is pretty cool! I enjoyed it. We found the ice to be 4 to 5 inches thick, good enough to walk on. In another week it may be 12" thick. We set up near some other guys. Mike has all the stuff, tip ups, jigging rods, portable shantys, you name it. We had large and small minnows, also maggots. We were looking for larger fish mostly. Ended up catching perch and I had one undersized walleye. Nick had a good one on. Probably a big pike. The tip up went off and he hustled over to it and set into the fish. It started comming up very easy, he said it was small. All of a sudden it took off for the bottom! He handlined it up toward the surface and again it took off. Made four good runs. The hook finally pulled out. I am betting it was a dandy pike! We never saw it.

Guys near us caught more perch than us and also keeper walleyes. They were using medium sized minnows, it seemed like that was what the fish wanted.

Nick brought a small grill and we had hamburgers on the ice. I have been talking up the surf thing to my freshwater guys...gonna bring some of them down to AI this year. They all seem interested in sharkin'.

Anyway the weather was pretty nice. Temps in the 20's and low winds, snow on and off all day. Gonna try it again!
