Head south...we pull stocked/native trout out all winter long. I don't flyfish, I use trout bites or a spinner on ultralite gear. But they need to eat, so I'd check around at local shops, see what they recommend for a winter fly, since there is no hatch in the winter I'm guessing maybe some sort of aquatic food you'd have to represent.....Once you know what they are eating it should be a little easier, and remember colder the water, the slower the presentation..... |

Even with the last minute Christmas stuff I managed to get a couple hours in the back yard - the little lehigh.
Got one 12 inch Brown on a honeybug inchworm. Water was really high and the color of chocolate milk. If it wasn't for that, I think i could've done better. The one fish I got was in the slowest water I could find - don't think they can take the faster current when the water is this cold. I'm liking this winter thing - I think i'll fish all year round this year whether it be fly fishing or surf fishing! |

Try the c&r section of Yellow Breeches with nymphs in the winter.

Drifter - never been there...its a bit of a hike for me (live in allentown). The little lehigh literally runs through my back yard and the monocacy is about 20 minutes away. So i tend to favor those two streams.
However, I've heard good things about the yellow breeches - its a very popular stream and i'm sure there are good reasons for that....so I may have to take a day trip sometime. Thanks! |

Never got really big into fly fishing! but I have had GREAT success using small inline spinners during the winter months in northern PA streams such as the Lycoming, Loyalsock and Muncy creeks. If you want to take a road trip Cedar and Slate run are good this time of year. Just make sure you take your fly rods!
