Question New Kayak

I picked up an older Ocean Kayak Scrambler XT installed a couple of rod holders. Planning to fish the bays and maybe the ocean if calm enough. What are the basic essentials that i should have with me? and what tackle is best ? ie: rod size primary targets fluke, stripers.
Thanks for the help

Default

A 7' tossin' rod with something the size of a Penn 750 would be fine.
If you plan to be away from the shore you'll need other essentials:

Compass
Whistle
Metal signal mirror
Basic first aid such as bandages
Drinking water
Waterproof chart and the knowledge of WHERE YOU ARE!!!

You can get a PFD that will hold everything you would need.
