Default Bad Situation turned out to be O.K.A.Y

I was down in OCMD about 4 weeks ago to surf and fish depending on the weather...well i decided to surf sence I didnt have anything heavy to throw. Durring the surf session i remember taking off on a wave and getting slammed hard on my back into a sandbar ( at OC Inlet ). So I ended up going back to the room, changing from the wetsuit and put the raingear on and went and fished the inlet for a few hours ( with no bites, Not a surprise ). Once i got back to PA I noticed that I had a really sharp pain in my back whenever I bent down to pick something up. I called my orthopedic surgon ( spelling? ) who reconstructed both of my ankles and he had me come right in for xrays and a M.R.I. Well to my surprise I fractured my tailbone in half so that only bone marrow was really holding it together and also fractured my first 3 vertabre in my lower back. Of course with me loving fishing so much, I asked him if I was able to cast a heavy surf rod again and he said that he was very doubtfull that i would EVER be able to cast a surf rod again with the amount of load that it puts on your back and soforth. So with that being said I knew my one friend who also has been into surf fishing latly was looking for 2 setups so I sold him both of my conventionals. Only about 1 week ago if that i went back in for more xrays and my doctor said my tailbone has started to fuze back together and soo has my 1st vertabre in which needs to heal good so the other 2 have a solid base. Before I left the room he said..."you know Nate, you better get back out and start casting that big rod again!" Once he said that i headed strait to basspro and bought a Daiwa sealineX 40HV and tonite I am heading out to purchase my OM12' rated for 6-12!!! So if you were wondering I wasnt on here in a while due to that and the fact that I was a bit down thinking I might not be able to fish the surf again but it all turned out great and im starting to heal up pretty good!!!!

Man, that sucks! I hope there will not be any long term effects to worry about. You are too young to be doing that to yourself!

Glad you are ok.

You are too young to get old, don't test the healing, give it some time and do it right....
The human body is amazing if ya just give it a chance to recover.

Been living with a fractured L4 for 13 years, it sucks but I'm putting off surgery in hopes of some more medical breakthroughs. I did it 15 years ago and was put in a cast and it healed, then I did it again wrestling in HS and it never did heal. It kind of floats apart and back together, some x rays it will be about 1" apart and some almost flush but I'm starting to get some slippage that will require the fusion.

I can cast those OM's just fine, it's the walking around on the uneven sand that kills at the end of the day.

You'll get through it, do what they say and don't screw around with the therapy. It shuts me down from time to time but it's managable.
