Striper Workshop
Anglers interested in learning more about catching stripers are invited to an informative day-long presentation all about catching stripers on Susquehanna Flats, in the Susquehanna River, and in Chesapeake Bay. It will be held on Saturday, February 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Willow Street Fire Company, 2901 Willow Street Pike in Willow Street, Pennsylvania (Route 272 north, five miles south of Lancaster).
A total of three separate seminars, including Powerpoint and slide presentations, and tackle demonstrations, will be provided. Each expert speaker will pinpoint the exact locations of striper fishing hot spots, and present in-depth information about the tackle, lures, baits and techniques needed for successful striper fishing:
· Stripers on Susquehanna Flats, by Captain Bob “Walt” Walter at Light Tackle Charters. Captain Walt fishes the entire Chesapeake Bay and beyond, and he’s an expert on catching 15- to 50-pound springtime stripers on Susquehanna Flats on live bait, plugs, plastics and poppers.
· Jigging and Chumming Chesapeake Stripers, by Lenny Rudow. Rudow is Fishing Editor for Boating magazine; he has written several books on fishing, including Rudow’s Guide to Fishing the Chesapeake; and his articles have been published in Saltwater Sportsman and Sport Fishing magazines. He will provide detailed information on where, when and how to jig plastics and metals for stripers, and how to effectively chum for stripers.
· Eeling for Stripers, by Keith Kaufman, former Managing Editor for The Fisherman magazine, and writer for numerous fishing publications. Learn how, where and when to drift live eels for lunker stripers.
Also attending will be Andy Orr at Amo Tackle (umbrella rigs, flounder rigs, offshore trolling rigs). Andy will share his secrets for catching stripers in the Susquehanna River - he has caught them to 55 pounds!
There will also be hands-on “demonstration stations” where attendees can meet the speakers and prepare baits, tie rigs and get great tips! Exciting door prizes, including tackle and fishing books, will be awarded. Tackle and books will be available for purchase. Attendees will receive a number of free, informative handouts. Coffee, breakfast, beverages and lunch will be available for purchase at the fire hall.
Advanced registration is recommended. It is only $25, and $15 for women and children under 14 (admission at the door will be $30). Register by making a check payable to Keith Kaufman, and mail it to: Keith Kaufman, 13 Apache Lane, Willow Street, PA 17584. Call Kaufman at (717) 284-3385 for additional information, or for directions to the Willow Street Fire Company. Parking is free.
