The NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) has denied an exempted fishing permit for longlining swordfish in the two sections of the Southeast coast areas that have been closed to deep-water open-sea longlining since 2001.However, they are considering options on how to conduct research in these closed areas. This research is regarding how the recent gear changes in the fishery can affect catch and bycatch rates. Source |
