Thumbs up YANK UM TEAM WINS ISLAMORADA’S ISLAND GRILL TOURNAMENT

(Jun. 19, 2007 - Islamorada, Florida Keys)... Over Father’s Day weekend, team Yank Um headed far out to sea to find the three dolphin fish that combined to weigh 45.2 pounds and earn first place at the third annual Island Grill Charity Dolphin Tournament.

Anglers Sue Realman and Peter Valliere, both of Tavernier, Fla., Dave Brasher and Francine Perry, both of Weston, Fla., and John Lewis of Pompano Beach won the first prize check for $5,000 along with the championship trophy.

Second place and a check for $1,000 went to Jose Lopez of Miami and Ray Perez of Key Largo. Fishing aboard the Top Fin, Lopez and Perez brought three dolphin totaling 38.4 pounds to the weigh-in station.

Third place went to the charter boat Reel McCoy out of Bud N Mary’s Marina in Islamorada. Georgia anglers Woody Long, Jim Grose, Jimmy Dudley and Robert Kile weighed in 38.0 pounds of dolphin. With Captain Ryan Rea at the helm, Reel McCoy also won the charter boat division and the trophy for most unusual catch, a tripletail landed by Kile.

Fort Lauderdale’s Kade Peterson, 12, won the junior angler division with almost 30 seconds to spare, weighing in a 16.8-pound dolphin just before the scales closed.

Kayla Gwinn of Key Largo weighed in the largest dolphin and largest wahoo at the tournament, at 19.6 pounds and 15.6 pounds, respectively.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Baptist Children’s Hospital Cancer Center.

The tournament drew 118 anglers fishing from 44 boats.

The best thing about this tournament is where the proceeds go.
To the sick kids!
There should be more like this.
