Default Florida trip shaping up

OK - gotta do the disney thing and visit my mother-in-law in florida....well.....

I can't go all the way down there and not fish!!!! My uncle also lives there and some more distant relatives own a charter company - and he was able to hook us up for a day of fishing - probably for redfish and snook (my dream is to catch a tarpon, but it'll be pretty late in the year for that i think)

The boat will be leaving out of Cortez. Can't wait to catch some species i've never caught before!!!

Question - are florida redfish the same as red drum?????? I think so, but not sure.... Also - anyone have experience with snook?

Will be down there 9/9 - 9/16 . Fishing trip, though is scheduled for 9/15.

Anyone have some info to share? I'm sooooo excited!

Cool! so even if I can't get a drum on AI this september I might get one in florida Ummm by long rod you mean my surf rod? Or my fly rod?

I haven't decided what to bring of my own gear yet - the of course there will be gear to use w/ the charter if I chose, but I'll also take some of my own. Again - most of the trip I'll be landlocked in Kissimee and Winterhaven...so I may try for some bass fishing as well during the week.

I'll pack what I can for rods....it'll be tight w/ 4 adults and two toddlers in the minivan....

Yeah, but so is some of the pullage you can get down there. Not to mention I have a friend who has a couple Yaks and goes out just about everyday either rod and reel or spear fishing. You've seen him in this thread..... http://www.delmarvafishing.com/forum...read.php?t=780

Unfortunately - even between my father (who is joining me on the trip) and I - our heaviest fly rod is a 5 wt! I havent' ventured into saltwater fly fishing yet....strictly trout and the occasional bass thus far.

Does sound like fun though - maybe i'll be lucky and the charter will have a fly rod to use?? Doubt it though - I don't think that's their style.

Cut over to DE, then down 13 and follow 13 down to Norfolk then you'll have to cut way back across to 95....Doable, but you'll be adding a bunch of time to your trip.
