Default Those new-fangled tip lights

Alrightey then, bought those new tip lights from Bev, the Galaxy Tip Light.
Yep, they come in blue, which I don't like, too dim.
I changed mine out to red and yellow.
Pretty easy swap.
Go to Radio Shack and buy the LED pack, part #276-1622, pack of 20 assorted LEDs.
Grab one of the larger ones, the 5mm, whatever color you want.

Pop the back off the unit and drop out the batteries and the LED.

Notice how the LED is shaped.....
The blob of solder is the positive and the long bent one is negative.

Take the SHORT wire on the new LED and cut it about 1/8" and double it over.
Don't crunch it down into the base of the LED, you need it to stick out.
You'll need to experiment with it later, hold on.....

Take the longer one on the new LED and bend it exactly like the old one. You will have some leftover. Take and bend it over on top of the sized length. Now, take a tiny bit of tip glue or regular hot glue from the wife's hot glue gun. It's the same thing as the tip glue they sell in the stores. Apply the smallest bit to the horisontal portion. Look at the old LED, you'll see what I mean.

Don't worry about putting solder on the one you doubled over (the positive lead).
Now that the glue is dry and not warm, put it back in the housing. Make sure the negative lead goes in the channel on the back, you'll see it.....

Put the batteries back in, snap the lid on and turn it on.
Doesn't work?
Push the LED in, working?
Ok, if it takes pushing it in to work, take the LED out and bend the positive lead out a little and try again.

That's about it......
Green is pretty good too.....

nice job with the glow tips  Just picked up some 8" glow sticks all green at the dollar store. They finally started putting them out in just one color so you don't have to waste the rest if you don't have kids around.

Steve, had to do a search on this topic to do an led change over,,,went out today and changed them over to green,,,got tired of looking at the blue from a distance,,,was going to just switch to regular light sticks but decided to try the led change,,,very easy, just a couple minutes and job done,,,got green and red,,,at less than a buck a piece, well worth the swap, tho I like the green the best,,,thanks again!

Yeah, thought about that, was looking for a more permanent option without damaging the pole. Maybe a small zip tie....
