They work very well and enable very long casts without the need of any mags. It is an excellent long caster without the use of mag controls. They do make a mag kit for the reel that runs between $60-$70.

As far as mags, when I use to static mag them, I used the thinnest ones available of variuos sizes. Like Jim says, use a piece of thin galvanized metal, like duct work. I bought a ac damper from home depot and cut out half moon shapes. One $3 damper will do a tone of reels.
All apart after my december outing because of a dunk, and I do not remember these bushings or seeing them on the parts diagram. Maybe they have changed? I don't know. I did hit 100 yards tonight with it set they way it has been. Am I in the zone or is there more I can get out of it if I work with it? On my static mags, I only have that 1 in the old Penn, and it is magnetically attached to a small nut that is glued in. The Diawa has 2 small flat mags between the spool and the crank housing end.The problem on these 2 reels is I have to tear them apart to adjust the mag if I want to dial them in more. I need to learn more abouth these knobby mags.

Here's a schematic of a D 30 look at part # 15 and 16 that should help you to see what the breaks look like and where they are at.

Default C.R.S. is setting in !

I woke up this morning knowing exactly what Coop is talking about with those bushings, then Snappers drawing link confirmed it. I just was not remembering it last night.

The bushings that are in the reel now are red. The ones in the little bag ( with the bottom bracket and screws) are white/clear. I just need to find them in the Garage tonight.

By any chance, Coop ( or anyone else) do you remember which color is for which application? The parts list shows them both - but does not indicate the application. And,,, do I still need the mags if the right bushings are in?

most people are comfortable with that reel without mags, using the friction bushings.

I am not sure on the color codes, but a quick google search should fix you up.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I think I am going from the 2 reds to 2 whites and see what happens. So , on a progressive scale, I should be shooting for no brake bushings and only a mag, to make this thing fly, correct?
