Default Blue rigs

Ok, been awhile since I've caught any Blues.
I'm figuring on the same kind of setup as with Rocks with the exception of a length by the hook of #5 Malin (43 lb test). Or would soft wire be better? I have not used soft wire before.

Running line to a 1/0 barrel, 80# shock, (soft or hard?) wire leader to hook.

Hmmm. I catch blues by accident while trying to catch rockfish. If you are going to target bluefish, I would just use a top/bottom rig (the metal ones). If you are going for the chomper blues Just use wire or very thin cable as your hook leader. I am just making this up as I go, but it sounds like it would work.

Problem with the top/bottom rigs is that they always seem to catch Skate, dunno' why.
I'll use larger bait so the smaller Skate will leave it alone and it will attract the larger Blues.
Man, I love the fight of a Blue.
Smoke a whole mess of 'em and eat 'em up with a cold beer chaser.
You had a taste of the smoked Blue last year, remember?
Got it from Kool Ice.
