Default Magging a Penn 113H

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about adding some mags to a Penn Senator 113H Special. I got one as a present and I want to mag it so I can heave some casts from the shore while sharking.

Someone else on P&S was also discussing it - no real good info thus far, but you could follow it here

So throwing gotcha plugs all night off the bridge isn't a good idea with this reel?

I am just going to use it to lob some huge baits out as far as I can. Probably going to get an Ocean Master rod for now to really heave it.

If this reel is too much of a beast to cast I will buy a Diawa 30 or 40 to cast with and only put this reel on my rod when some nice fellow fisherman Yak's some bait out for me.

You guys are killing me!
I suppose by next year I will step into the dark side. I like Sam & Scott's rigs. That Rainshadow is schweet!
Ben, you can do something as simple as changing out the bottom guide on a Tica spinner to a connie, yes?

you can use it as is if you want. Ticas are notoriously wide on their spacing, my guess is even moreso with the spinners which is a big problem when fighting a fish. Under load the line will actually transition underneath of the blank in some cases. Spinning guides generally sit much higher on the blank as well when you reverse it. Best bet is to re-wrap with new guides obviously. Once I broke my 1502 I fished a OM spinning heaver as conventional the rest of the trip. I'm now converting that one to conv and the Tica to spinning. You can pick up a reel and give it a go for a while and then swap it out later, the feel of the blank won't be that different, just less efficient.

Hell I'm switching a TICA conv to a spinner, want to trade?

I will NOT buy another reel this year.
(wellllllll, maybe not......)
I may make the switch next year.

I'd like some nice Fuji's that fold down on the spinner.
Sorry Ben, not ready to trade yet, gotta' wait to buy a good reel.

Jim, I have never seen the inside of a 113h but if you have enough clearance, you can glue a galvanized plate and put a large magnet on the plate. Home Depot sells very large thick strong mags that may have the ability to slow that large spool down, but not really sure what the heck it looks like inside and how much clearance you really have. Jim, did you ever mag that purple avet?

I have seen on a couple other sites where people are using a zinc washer and epoxying it to the side plate and just sitting magnets on the washers. I am going to try that method. I'll let everyone know how it goes, sounds pretty easy.

Coop, I was going to do it when I got home that day you gave me the stuff to do it, but i remembered I didn't have a tap and die set. So I was going to buy one, but remembered I had to go to my brothers HS graduation in PA and my Dad has both a nice drill press and tap set, so when I go there this weekend I am taking the Avet with me and I am going to make sure it gets done right on the drill press.

I have used the Avet reel at the Choptank pier a couple times without any mags in it and i can cast it fine as long as I don't try and put any power behind the cast. As soon as I try and launch one I it starts to blow up mid flight and then its thumb burning time!

Well the purple Avet is now officially magged! Thanks Coop for all your help, I couldn't have done it without you.
