You'll want circle hooks for the Charkeys. Sand Tigers can easily get gut hooked. Also, if you have a big J hook, it can act like an anchor when bringing it back in, can dig in. Real pain when you have a couple thousand feet out. Just heat 'em up and bend 'em in a bit.

I do. At least the ones not thrown in the skillet....If its legal size and species, its usually a keeper n eater for me, depending on my mood. I like sharkmeat....
That whole circle /J debate will always be a matter of opinion. J,s for me. Opened up circles too. Both work. But I think ya miss more hits with unopened circles. If ya do gut hook one you wanna/hafta release, just cut the rig off as close to the hook as is safely possible, and make it a point not to use stainless hooks, so they will rust out. Most important, whatever style ya go with, make em sharp, file to an even triangular/pyramid point style. Lefty Kreh style. |
