Default Penn Super Mag Conversion

I just bought 2 525's.

Is the super mag conversion worthwhile? And, where can I get it?

Thanks,

-b

Bob, I wouldn't bother adding any more mags... just start off on slow and work your way up.... depending on how I am casting I either have to have it half way or off now....you will get used to it. just start with mono till you get more comfortable then make the switch to braid once you get past the majority of the blow ups....not only is braid more costly to blow up it is so much harder to get the nests out when you do...also keep a small crochet hook in your tackle box. like .99 in the craft aslie at walmart as apposed to the same thing in the fishing section for like 5 bucks.....

Do you mean the newer 525 or adding extra mags to the original or getting a kit to replace the original mag control on the 525?

I would recomend adding a couple extra mags and starting out slow. I have them in mine, which takes about a couple minutes to add 2 extra mags. It just gives you some protection from blow ups. Still don't understand how you can cast with the setting at 0. I don't think a tournament caster can cast that reel at 0 without thumbing the spool to stop the over run. Still trying to figue out how you manage that Oliver with out thumbing the spool .

Derf: I bought 2 525 mags.

O: Yeah, I'm planning on starting out with Suffix Tritanium 17# then making the switch to 50# Fireline.

You can buy the conversion kit from Hatteras Outfitters for $20. Or you could just go buy 2 extra mags and piggy back them behind the original mag control. Total cost of the 2 mags from radio shack is only a couple dollars and takes a minute and works as well as the mag conversion. You just need to coat the mags to keep them from rusting. A pic of the mag conversion from Hatteras Outfitters.

Scott.... I am not sure how I do it either....and I do thumb it a little one thing I have noticed that when I use more of a lob I get less blow ups as opposed to trying to line drive it. Still working on my form.....I have been trying to adopt some of the things you do when you cast , but thats when I start blowing up ....I need to find that happy medium
