Default Gonna Start Tying

Ok, so with the heart attack and all that craziness, I have decided that I am in need of a hobby other than fishing that I can do any day of the week and any time of the day regardless of weather, time limits etc. So I figured I will start doing something that will add to my fishing, so I'm going to start hand tying rigs and tying my own jigs, bucktails, etc. Tomorrow I will be going out to dicks (only because its close and quick) to pick up some basics. Since this is a first try for me and with my situation I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to use any of these this year, can anyone suggest some color combos that I should start with? I don't want to do the basic red/white bucktail. I'm thinking Black/red Black/Pink, Blue/white, Yellow/blue. Some I'll paint eyes, others I'll glue eyes on. Anyone want me to try anything specific and if they turn out good maybe I'll send out a couple so I can find out (sooner than later) if they are catching fish......I have my dad making me a modified verison of the Bench in the picture. It will be a little larger than the one in the picture and will include a dowel to hold a spool of leader material for making rigs. There will be a tape measure under the shellack for measuring out leader legnths etc. I'm am really looking forward to this and seeing the fruit of my now pathetic gimpy existence LOL, nah, I don't really feel that way (pathetic and gimpy) I just know I need something to occupy my time instead of haning out on the front porch kicking back cold one's and smoking up packs of marlboros on the neighbor's front porch...So, help me out, give me some ideas and maybe you'll end up with a few new toys for your tacklebox.....

Wow - for a second there I thought you meant you were gonna start tying flies! I do my own flies, but not much else... never tied anything for the salt....

I hope your recovery goes well and you get back to fishing soon. As far as help all I know is that the old timers in the Chesapeake always say "If ain't Chartreuse it ain't no use". I don't tie alot but I do tie clousser minnows and a few bucktails. There is Green Chartreuse and Yellow Chartreuse so I would mix them together, along with white and black as a start. Lately the hot color at the Narrows (Kent Narrows) has been pink but thats in a Bass Assassin but I am sure a pink bucktail would attract the same attention.

Start out simple. Tie up some different colors on various spoons.
Heck, I thought you were going to become a seamstress....
