Default Avet sx

just bought this reel in silver,,,heard very good things and very bad things - bad in that it's way to fast unless magged and not really meant for surf casting, but have heard if magged, it's an unbeleivable weight and bait reel,,,gotta try it,,,BTW, I will mag it.

Seriously, let me know how it works.....I've looked at those reels....I believe there is a thread somewhere that I've posted about that reel in purple for my GF, well I guess she's my fiance now Can't wait to hear the reports about it.

my conv reels aren't really casting reels. I fish them unmagged and adjust the tension based on the weight I'm tossing. It has worked to this point. I think you'll dig it in a big way! Let us know how the magging goes and then maybe "we" can figure out how to mag my reels too!

That looks to be a precision machined piece. Nice. Keep it out of the sand... I've heard those precision tight reels don't like any sand in their cracks....

That is one of the negative aspects of this reel,,,doesn't like the sand, so will be sure to keep it out.

Figure I would do a little report on my Avet sx(made in the usa),,,my first impression when I first got it was how small the reel was, but after I got it, I noticed the spool is taller unlike a 525 where the spool is wider,,,I actually think the avet holds a little more line than the 525.

The qaulity of this reel is unbelievable for the money,,,I have never felt a reel like this one,,,very well balanced and very light,,,this is by far the most well built reel I have ever used and I garauntee thats the first thing you will notice,,,keep in mind this reel really has no cast control, so magging it is a must,,,way too fast to cast.

The magging part only takes about 10 minutes and anyone could do it, my 9 year old daughter could do it,,,it's that easy,,,the problem with magging the reel is you have to experiment with magnet sizes to determine how many mags it takes to keep the spool just slightly under control,,,I blew the reel up several times until I found the right magnet configuration to use,,,once you find the magnets, casting is smooth as silk and casts just as far if not further than the 525,,,I did make a mistake on the beach after tossing it most of the day, decided to take a mag out to see if I could push the spool even more,,,bad mistake, I blew it up and went back to the original mag set up.

This reel has a lever drag as well, which I personally prefer over the star,,,you never need to adjust the drag it stays the same, cast after cast,,,if you get into a fight with a fish that is starting to spool you, you simply apply slight forward pressure on the lever.

The bad thing for me is the spool sits up higher on the rod so my thumb has to reach a little to hold the spool,,,the other problem is sand is an enemy of this reel,,,there really is nothing keeping sand from getting into the reel, but really a non issue for me, because I tend to keep my hands sand free even with my other reels,,,if you do drop it into the sand your probably done until you get home to clean it.

I would say this is by far the best reel I ever used,,,I would like a whole fleet of these babies but may have to wait due to the slightly hefty price tag,,,this reel is a bargain for $175,,,this reel is easily as good as any reel that sells for over $400,,,and I am not kidding, it's that good!

I have it on my lightweight 1569 rainshadow that I got from Gary Smith (Smith Custom Tackle),,,this rod has no underwrapping and the butt is cut off 6" making it an ultralight,,,this combo is featherlight.

The drag I have heard is the best around,,,no large on it yet, but can't wait to get one and test the drag.

This reel is awsome.
