Shocker knot

Alright, I am revisiting this topic,,,I am not exactly happy with the knot I am using,,,it is very very strong and will not break at the knot,,,the line gives out first,,,my problem is it's a two knot system, loop knot tied (like the spider hitch) connected with a noname,,,my problem is that I think maybe one of the knots are hitting the guides possibly reducing my distance,,,I feel I need every inch,,,so I want to return to a single knot sytem,,,here is what I have treid:

1. doubled the leader, tied with a no name
2. doubled the leader, tied with an albright
3. simple knot (granny), teid with a no name
4. surgeons type knot only on leader, main line going threw figure 8 of leader knot tied with no name and albright
5. uni uni
6. blood blood

these knots would always brake at the knot,,,maybe there is no knot that can retain 100 perc strength, unlike the loop, but I really like the very low profile of these knots.

I like 1 and 2,,,quick and easy, just worried about the braking strength.

any thoughts?,,,I spent hours last night trying a variety of knots and am still not 100 per satisfied but really want to use a suingle knot system.

Have you thought of trying the shock leader that is tappered I think you can get it that runs from 40+ lbs and tapers to 17 or 20 that might help with the know size? or maybe a diferent casting style. just a thought....

that standard leader not from blackbeard's site is what I tried and - seems very strong - is very small and is SIMPLE to tie....

I also bought a bunch of the tapered leaders, but haven't tried them yet

I been using the spider to noname 2 knot system of late but use a single 17lb running line to 50 shocker noname knot for a single. It is weaker than the 2 knot system but it has never failed me. With a strong cross wind I go with that as the 2 knots will get caught up. Like the Albright the Noname is easy to screw up. Wet line before pulling and should look nice and neat like a small barrel when done. Lots of times they don't pull together tight and I retie. Also the running line should be at a right angle to the knot if done right. Blood knot when you double the running line is a great single knot but bulky. Not sure but my bet is the blood is the stronger single knot.

I think I am limited to the knots I can use because I use braid, but that being said I also get a smaller diameter line so the knots are smaller so there are less problems with getting hung up on the guides, I still use uni to uni, I have got to remember the super glue though.

Go with the one that puts you in the water you want to be in...the rest is up to you. (now that I think of it I need to trim down my shock leader to a more castable length) If your knot only gives you 90% of your 20lb then know it and set the drag and play the fish. Better to hook up and fight then never to hook up at all.

Super glue does help for some reason, last albright I broke was in the running line about 20 yards down and not at the knot.

I don't worry with a slight distance lost due to crosswind knot banging. It is going to happen if the wind is blowing.

my advice...go with the strongest setup you can tie. there is great comfort in knowing you can throw the screws to anything that you bow up wth and your gear is going to hold up.

that being said I tie a 15 turn bimini to a no name and then when i bow up i put it on the fish hard, i dont let them walk me up and down the beach unless there is a crowd. somebody has to take control might as well be the fisherman.

I use an albright all the time. It seems to work and hold up. Some put super glue, I never have. One knot, now any knot hits the guides as it goes out. A bimini and no name works too, but when I use it, it seems to create more friction through the guides. I have also tied the aussie braid, and it creates the same loop on the end of your line that a bimini does. I would not like to tie the bimini or the Aussie braid in the dark, I can tie the albright with no problem.

I also like the Albright. I think it looks the best under magnification. Solid and tight.

Well after banging my head against the wall, I am sticking with the two knot system,,,tho, I am now shortening up the loop to less than a 1",,,IMO, there is no knot stronger,,,wond blowing, raining in sheets,,,time to make up more rigs for the up coming weeks ,,,thanks for the replies.

I have used the uni knot but don't tie it all that well. Sometimes it holds strong and sometimes not.

I like the idea of what Coop is using...I believe I will give it a try.

Yup, thats what I use...Never had one fail on me yet.....
