Default Want to start building

Ok....so I found this reel for my girlfriend (haven't bought it yet) and have thought about starting to build my own rods. Not to make money, but to help out friends and build myself some nice custom rods, not to mention something to pass the time when I'm stuck at home and unable to fish. FYI here's the reel I want to build a custom rod for

I figured a nice purple and silver wrap would be nice.....Ok, so on to the questions.....What do I need to start out? What books or articles would you recommend reading to get started right? Are bigger rods easier to learn or or smaller rods? What equipment to stay away from, what stuff to lean towards? I know I'm asking alot of questions here, but would love to start doing this. Who knows in a few years time if I move to the beach maybe I could start selling custom stuff.....but that is in the future.

Nothing against your girlfriend, but I am going to have to cast my vote for this woman being the sexiest on the beach.... do those reels come in blue?

Yeah, now I just need to figure out how to build a custom rod to make the reels look good. Oh, the reels aren't cheap. The 12-20# Avet SX 5.1 is about $180, the 20-30# model is about $210
