Sure, Clam works fine.
Just use the standard fish finder rig with at least an 8/0 Circle hook.
yeah big chunks of clam seemed to do the job for me...FF rig with a big circle hook
I couldn't keep clams on my hook last weekend, i even used rubber bands, anyone have any tricks they use?
Put the hook through three times. First time through muscle, second through the middle, then third through muscle.
Do as Steve has said and I also use magic thread. You can find it at any bait shop, just wrap it around the clam and around the shank of the hook a few times. Then you will be ready to whip that baby out.
Surf Clams. They tend to not like chowder clams.
I have had no problem catching drum or stripers on chowders...its all I ever use.
