Those are great looking fish! You said you used clam. How exactly do you bait that up and with what rig? Where did you get the bait? Can you eat those?

    Thanks!

i got the bait from OLD INLET i was cutting the clams in half nothing special.......we werent going to keep any but the first two we gave away , so the third one we decided to keep...got about 7 lbs of meat off of him....i fried some up last night with some old bay in butter.....i liked it , some guy on the beach was telling me to wrap it in bacon and bake it ill have to try that

Quoting you cpthook: "i would consider myself a surf fishing noob so i have to ask ... "
Since you are new, i was saying that days like you just had are few and far between...not beginners luck. If you thought i was making a dig....nope. Stay a while and see what im talkin' about. You usually have to spend lots of time and hours on the beach to have a day like you had.

tri i was just joking man......steve you say you tie a uni to uni 12' 50# lead? ?? does that get snagged up when youre casting? all those drum were caught off the same pole..its spooled with 50# power pro my other pole is spooled with 20# berkely smooth cast and i got broke off twice on that pole...both times in the waves.....the drag was not too tight but i think what youre suggesting with the 12' 50# lead would do the trick,..............also is it a bad idea to tie a braid leader to mono with a uni to uni knot???

The Uni-Uni is 17 lb mono running line to 50 lb for a few wraps. Trimmed tight, no catches.
I never use braid as a leader, zero stretch.
On the braid rigs, I use a coastal on the end and then attach the leader. I'm not concerned about the 35 lb braid snapping during the cast.

I have prolly tied a uni-uni braid to mono, dunno', so many reels....
But I don't recall any problems.
I'll have to look at my mangrove rigs to see, got 10 & 20 lb braid on there (Reds vs Tarpon).
