IRI 11:30am-2:30pm today. Bite was on fire if you were after short togs. I threw a 2oz white/red Gotcha for a while, then threw a 2oz blue/chrome stingsilver for a bit and got tired of everyone trying to set hooks on tog so I ran down to Old Inlet B&T and picked up some frozen sand fleas.....it was on fire if only I could hook them now I managed 4 or 6 shorts, biggest going about 11-12"....First time togging, loved it...those little things put up a great fight.

Red face

Jim
The railing was really packed a couple of hours before the pic

Jeff
This one guy caught his fleas on the beach ...The tog in the pic was caught by another angler who threw back a small tog 14" before he hit this one 15"... all caught on fleas

The peanut bunker were all along the railing....another guy was catching them w/a cast net

Shad and blues were breaking throught out the inlet ....some of the angler's on the railing hit dink rocks on bucktails....the guys in the boat were hitting keeper on live spots ....Oh btw I did meet a kid who had 20 +/- baby spots in a live well ..he caught in a cast net at the boat ramp

The one crazy thing I did see was a guy catching up to 18" flounders on live spots and throwing them back for being undersize

There were a couple guys looking at the water planning on doing some spear fishing later on. I over heard them talking to the guys down the rail from me and the water temp was about 65. Dre...I started catching some sandfleas on sun morning to try some togging but threw them back....If I had it to do all over again I would've sat on the beach the entire time Ciara was laying out and collecting up sand fleas and would've spent a little more time down on the rail. One of the guys looking to spearfish said he got his all time best tog a few days ago @ 25"...so they are in there, I just wasn't hooking them

Thanks for the report. I'm going to have to get the cast net out and get some of those peanuts and go flatty fishing.

Default my report for 8/3

my first post to the DE site....anyway, fished all nite Saturday(8/2)just south of the South Jetty at IRI. I fished kingfish rigs, hoping to catch some kingfish for shark bait....got tons of "little" hits....but couldn't hook 'em. I'm assuming they were spot...but I couldn't catch them for the life of me. Anyway, the next day, the south jetty fills up with people toggin, and I sat on the beach watchin...since I had never togged before. From about 10:30 until 3:00...they were catchin tog hand over fist. It was ridiculous!! I must have seen 100 fish come out of the waters around the south jetty point (where the light tower is). Then a guy comes in with a minnow bucket, and proceeds to catch about 4 flounder 18". He threw them all back so I'm assuming they were around 18" 'cause they looked big. The guy next to him catches a couple as well. It was awesome. The funny / scary thing was to watch all the vacationers try to walk out on the rocks to see what the fisherman were catching. I must have seen about 10 people fall on the rocks...to the point where I had to go over and stop people from walkin out there...explaining to them the concept of korkers.
Anyway, I went back to my truck to make a sandwich about 1:00, and I see this asain guy slip a bag of undersize lookin tog(in a seethrough plastic bag) to his wife, and she hurried them back to their van. That really ruffled my feathers. I should've told someone...but I just let it go.
I'll probobally head doen there this weekend.
