Today was my daughter's last day of school. I picked her up at 12:30 and we headed for the Broadkill River. We launched at BK Marina and cruised down towards the inlet. We fished from about 1:30 to 4:00 and caught seven flounder. My daughter caught her first ever keeper. We had two keepers out of the seven. My daughter caught fat 22" fish and I got a 23" fish. I had the hardest time cutting the fillet off of the brown side of the larger fish. The fish only had about 1/8" of meat on the fillet. I have never seen a fish like that before in my life. I wished I had not taken it home as I got ZERO meat from it. The wind made drifting difficult and I had to use my drift sock. WT was 69degrees at high tide. All the fish were caught on chunks of chicken breast with different colored skirts.

I have just about stopped buying minnows for flounder fishing. I do occasionaly use chicken breast and minnow on the same hook though.Chicken breast has outfished EVERYTHING, including GULP.
I have caught trout, blues, stripers and flounder on chicken. |

whole chickens for sharks...indeed.
expensive and a PITA to do but from pics I've seen it works durn good. I think its more due to the distribution of the oil with the sponge and cavity but hey. My new one this year is a turkey injector and bunker oil...fill-er-up. sorry for the thread jack Flat.

Chicken Breast used to be my brother's bait of choice when he was fishing Henlopen on a regular basis. He caught Trout, Stripers, Blues flouder and just about every other species from the surf on Chicken breast. I have also had 13-15" fish tugging away on my chicken neck or back before when I'm cabbing....go figure, a fish messing with your crab bait I guess its true...what comes around goes around

LOL I normally cut the raw chicken into 1/2" chunks, sometime strips. I use it to tip bucktails and jigs. Sometimes I use it on a bare hook, or a hook with a rubber worm or grub. When you used to be able to catch trout from the surf in the spring I would put two or three chunks on at a time because trout tend to peck. Boneless breasts are the easiest, but I have used thighs or legs with success. |
