Yep...$5000 for driving on the dunes would be a good deterrent.

Another vote for Bob's idea. Win/Win all around.

Sounds like a good idea to me

That is a good idea, but then again we all know how ranger walker is. as for the proposed increase, I will still pay to go out there, it is for a whole year, from the month purchased, still a good buy in my book, besides it is really to keep AI open, if they make more money then estimated then they will have to drop the fee cost the following year, they get penalized if they dont make enough or if they make to much, the first problem being if they dont make enough they could end up closing AI and making it a managed area, none of us want that. There is already the proposal to close from just south of the bullpen to the va line. I am already trying to fight that one.

With the new fee structure will comes 3 new stickers for easy identification. I have contacted the NPS to find out how they are handling the 2007 permits if this new system goes into effect 1/2008. Stay tuned, I'll post the reply as soon as I get the answers.

I went to the AMSA meeting last night. I was very enlightened about how much effort is already going into issues I did not know existed yet. I think at this point, we need more community awareness and support. If you are not a member, reconsider. I have read where people were concerned that AMSA was not big enough to handle what could potentially come our way. I learned that they are affiliated with other organizations and can call in the calvary if need be. If everyone who was concerned about beach access was willing to contribute time and money, we can create our own calvary. I suppose the next step is to determine what actions to take. Okay HD.... Does anyone know who exactly we can write to? Can an event be organized to inform the general public what is taking place with the blue water lawsuits and how this will affect us?

There is an event planned to inform the public of what is happening, EXPO. I will be doing several seminars over the weekend that are intended to inform anyone interest the status of events affecting AI. It will be similiar to what you heard last night, but with much more detail. The presentation I have lasts approximately 45 minutes allowing for 15 minutes of questions and discussion. I will adjust the time accordingly as I see how things go. This is one step we are taking to get public awareness up with factual information rather than hearsay.

I have also been invited to speak to one of DMS monthly meetings and am willing to speak at any event that wishes to know and understand the current events.

Hope to see you all there and thank you for attending last night. It was GREAT to see the interest and energy.

Best Wishes,

HD

Default Permit Duration

I just received a reply from the NPS about how they will handle 2007 passes.

All 2007 passes will be valid for 12 months from date of purchase. They will be treated as the RV pass ($150 pass). Their goal is to recover cost, but in a fair way. They will phase in the new structure to benefit the user.

Hope this helps.
