I do think it is unfair to not let all enjoy the beach, but I wonder what would be said or happen to me if I went to Ocean City beach, backed my truck out on the beach in August and threw out a line. The only place for us in MD. to fish is Assateague. There is no real fair way to look at it.

Cool pic sandcaster. My guess is, besides the obvious dollars, AI's proximity to alot of largely populated cities when compared to the more isolated obx. It keeps AI from being a complete zoo, which is still an object of debate. Especially in the peak of summer at about 9 AM.... But I have seen some Zoo-like pics of obx too...
is running out for all drive on beaches on the east coast IMO...![]() |

cape lookout is the only national park down there that you can sleep / camp on the beach and not get ticketed . there is a fee for driving on the beach at cape cod which is nps ; plus there are local town fees .. i don't know about anything farther south than cape lookout ...i think the next national park on the beach is in fla ?? |

The information on the AMSA web site was posted the same day as the public press announcement. We received a revised fee proposal today, but it does not affect the OSV permit fees so I did not have it posted to the AMSA site. The Genreal Management Plan update scheduled for 2008 will proceed and that is where we will need to all be involved in order to make the necessary changes we think will make AI more enjoyable for all and especially allow our kids to have the same or similar experiences as we did growing up. Keeping access in the #1 prioirty. More details will follow as the year progresses. Watch your news letters, the web site and come out to the meetings if you can.

i actually sent them an email suggesting they treat the bull pen as a campground, requiring registration and reservations and payment for its use, that would generate quite a bit of income and render offset many of the proposed fee changes. why should it be free?

I don't know how many of you have camped on Assateague with a camper and in the bullpen overnight.... we have for approx. 28 years, maybe longer! We have spent countless weekends down on the island and have been able to enjoy our life just alittle bit more by doing so.
The idea of the price increase I can live with because I just flat out love Assateague and probably will pay the fee no matter what, but to think we would have to make 'reservations' and/or register in order to 'camp' in the bullpen I don't think would be such a great idea! The bullpen is not a so called campground and hope it never turns into one.. I would rather pay the money up front and go and come as we please! Nothing really comes free if ya think about it either! This is of course, just my thoughts as I see it. Its hard to tell what will become of the island in the years to come... Dianne ![]()

no need for reservations as there is supposed to be a limt of the vehicles on the sand anyway...with the exception of camporee. They are paying up front for bullpen usage now which seems fair compared to those who come only to swim etc.
I may not even get the 24 hour, I really should be getting some sleep, I've never caught anything between 12-5 anyway and usually start dosing in and out around 1:30-2:00 anyway shhhhhh!
