In a nut shell, they help preserve the right for access and camping for off road vehicles on AI,,,they do other things as well - beach cleanup and local community assistance and support,,,you are right, just went to the site and was very suprised there is no real information regarding what they actually do,,,I am not a member but if I was interested in being a member, that kind of information should be the first thing you should see when you visit their home site.

I've contacted AMSA and asked them to stop by and give us an explanation. They might need help with their site.. 8)

well i am sorry for the lack of information on the AMSA website i was hoping that sam would make it to a few board meetings this winter and get a bit of an idea of what we do as a club. i would still like to see sam join us at a meeting in the near future ie every 3rd wed of the month in berlin at the american legion.. i would like to see sam come by and maybee give a monthly report on his site of the goings on at a board meeting, i know that we have our own website but i feel that an outsider would be able to report on the issues with out prejudice. i know that as a current board member i can tell you this in the past few years of me being a member i have participated in just about every event since 2003.
i can go over a fews events that are special to me. i do attend monthly meetings(3rd wed each month) {anyone can and is encouraged to attend} i have participated in the annual "take a kidd fishing" event held on the state park every spring i have helped with the march of dimes walk held on AI each spring this year will be 4-29-06 i have done the beach clean ups the past few years twice yearly. next one 4-8-06 i have volunteered for help at the expo each year. AMSA holds the expo each year and has done so for the past 34 years. we put on the annual camporee each year in august we have an annual club fishing tournement each year that any memeber can participate in the goes for the whole year. the club is activley keeping an eye on current lawsuits that may limit our use of the beaches and that is our main concern as a club at this time, we have made avilble funds for future lawsuit that other groups such as hatteras anglers and opba may take head on in the near future. we always hear what is our dues going towards well you may see what they are going to in the near future if these lawsuits get any uglier. this year i am taking on a huge responsiblity as surf fishing tournament chairmen, i am sure sam can tell you what a great show we put on last year and this year will be bigger and beter. i will be taking on teams starting this week sign up will be now until right up to the tournamant in october 6 man teams 3 sesions 2 days of fishing and food and beer. i can be reached via email at randmxpress@yahoo.com or 443-235-2609 i am hoping that this may clear up a few questions one may have involving AMSA. thanks for the time ron humphress amsa associate director #1025 |

Here is the application for 2006. You can print it out if you are interested in joining.
It is in .ZIP format, so I could include both the .pdf file and the Microsoft Word file. I did this because not everyone has MS Word. If you have Windows XP, you should be able to unzip the file with no problem. If you have Windows ME, 98 or below, visit WinZip For a program that can open it for ya.

Hey Derf, I can understand whatcha mean. I have created a forum on this site so ALL information can be relayed, debated and discussed. I think they are a good organization, they just need some fine tuning. Don't give up hope yet. :thx:

lol, i gave up on them a while ago .... honestly , when i was inquiring about joining ( a couple of years ago ) i was told that all they really care about was the camporee . this was told to me by 2 different directors !! who both by the way have also given up on them .. also after the 'bashing' incident last year i recieved e-mails and pm's about how they were looking into changing the website and giving out more information about what was going on . still hasen't happened .... and IMHO has gotten worse yea , i really wish it would improve it would be nice to have a group who would fight for our beach acess locally i just don't see it happening . actions speek louder than words . derf |

Well, I entend on attending the the next meeting. I will "officially" tell them they have a forum with people inquiring about what they do, and I'm sure they will designate a member to check the site frequently and answer questions.
I love my Assateague too.

oh heres a valid question
the asma fishing tournament has a 70 team max, with 2 vehicles allowed per team. the assateague max is 145 vehicles. is it closed to all other traffic that weekend? what if you enter but cant get on?
