Was all of this in
SC or is some of it at
AI? I can't tell where it all applies since it isn't in the
SC forum, although I do know Folly Pier is in
SC.
you guys ever use a float to get the bait up and away from the skates? I'm thinking about a baloon 5-6 ft (maybe 2-3) behind the hook and after the sinker. Think it will work for stripes and sharks? I'm definitely doing it in
SC when I go in a couple weeks...good reports are in. I think if you are using live bait keeping it floundering at the top would really increase your odds of it being seen.
"A 31 pound king mackerel was caught and landed today on the pier.I know for sure as I helped gaff it. So it's time. Some Spanish as well. Menhaden are small but plentiful.
Fished the King end of Folly Pier Saturday. It was one of the best days weatherwise I've seen in ages. The guy next to me caught a whopping 30" Blue. It was skinny and only weighed 7 pds 13 ozs but what a rush seeing him hit a 10 to 12 inch blue that was being used as bait. We caught about 10 blues. Other fish being caught were whiting, small pompano, sandsharks, and huge stingrays. Also a couple of nice trout and a Spanish Mackerel. Water was green and very little chop.Netted menhaden in the 6 to 8 inch range. Had to quit fishing the diamond at the end at 5:00 pm due to a wedding but still a great day to be fishing. It's only a matter of time !!"
12 days and counting...
By the time I get back it might be charkin weather on
AI.
