my first post to the
DE site....anyway, fished all nite Saturday(8/2)just south of the South Jetty at
IRI. I fished kingfish rigs, hoping to catch some kingfish for shark bait....got tons of "little" hits....but couldn't hook 'em. I'm assuming they were spot...but I couldn't catch them for the life of me. Anyway, the next day, the south jetty fills up with people toggin, and I sat on the beach watchin...since I had never togged before. From about 10:30 until 3:00...they were catchin tog hand over fist. It was ridiculous!! I must have seen 100 fish come out of the waters around the south jetty point (where the light tower is). Then a guy comes in with a minnow bucket, and proceeds to catch about 4 flounder 18". He threw them all back so I'm assuming they were around 18" 'cause they looked big. The guy next to him catches a couple as well. It was awesome. The funny / scary thing was to watch all the vacationers try to walk out on the rocks to see what the fisherman were catching. I must have seen about 10 people fall on the rocks...to the point where I had to go over and stop people from walkin out there...explaining to them the concept of korkers.
Anyway, I went back to my truck to make a sandwich about 1:00, and I see this asain guy slip a bag of undersize lookin tog(in a seethrough plastic bag) to his wife, and she hurried them back to their van. That really ruffled my feathers. I should've told someone...but I just let it go.
I'll probobally head doen there this weekend.
