Mako Steaks | | Pattie and I went on a planned overnight trip to the Sausages yesterday. After trolling from the Jackspot to the Sausages without a pull we decided to change tactics and put out the chum bucked and bluefish fillets. Around 5:30 got a hit on the farthest back bait but missed the fish. I started reeling in to check the bait and a nice Mako hit the bait as I was reeling coming completely out of the water on the strike, what a sight. After about a 30 minute fight on a 50lb stand up rod we got the fish to the boat. When we got the fish in the boat we realized that we didnt have anything big enough to put it in so after it calmed down sufficiently we got what we could in the tuna bag and left about 10 inches of the tail sticking out. We headed back to ocean city and then the fun began. Wind kicked up to 25-30 knots and seas quickly went to about 5 foot rollers. We sloshed our way back to the inlet in about 4 hours. But cant complain. Two trips offshore and two tuna and one mako. |
