Well, we don't exactly condone that method. They are our allies and it's not fair to group all of them in with the businesses trying to steal our children's resources. We have the same thing happening in this country on many fronts (Enron, Exxon, etc).
If they can put satellite tracking and an international observer on board, that would be a start. Based on past occurrences, observers sometimes take a hard whack while on board. They are verbally and sometimes physically abused. It's not an easy job.
The whole system in this case is corrupt. They all want to make the imperial Yen. They are not concerned about wasting away an entire species, and that is a damned shame.
Perhaps international monitoring of the port of call would be an idea. Offshipping at sea is still a problem, you can't put a tracking device on every ship out there. Maybe a team of observers on baord and teams at the ports would help.
Alas, they aren't the only country doing this. There are other Asian companies just off out coasts raping the environment.
Heck, our's too, anyone care for some Omega-3?
Until this information makes it into the mainstream, people will not know about it, hence, nothing will be done. At this point, it's up to the media outlets to let it be known. But I'm sure you won't see it broadcast in China or North Korea.....
Good find on the article, thank you for posting it.
