Restrictions on harvesting menhaden fish off North Carolina's Brunswick County's coast - a regulation that proponents say will boost the county's tourism industry - made it through the General Assembly this week.
House Bill 1017, on its way to be signed into law by the governor, prohibits taking menhaden or Atlantic thread herring with a purse seine net within three miles of the Brunswick County shoreline. The restrictions will be in place from May 1 to Oct. 31 each year.
