(Mar. 27, 2006 - Hanover,
MD)... Saturday, April 8th is ’Striper Saturday’ at Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Baltimore, with hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Big, brawling striped bass are the targets when the Chesapeake Bay Spring Season opens on Saturday, April 15. Trolling the channels with large, bait-imitating lures is the preferred technique to hook one. But, how and where to find those big stripers takes some knowledge. And, once you find them, getting them to bite your offering is another story. That’s where ’Striper Saturday’ can help.
Some of the best regional pros and a tackle manufacturer that specialize in striped bass will share their expertise on how to catch our most popular fish, known up and down the Chesapeake Bay as ’rockfish’. Their tough fighting ability and delicious filets make this fish an All-Star in the Mid-Atlantic.
* - At 10 a.m., Capt. Dan Kardash of T & D Bass Guides covers the Susquehanna striper hotspots with ’Secrets of the Susquehanna Flats’.
* - The Outdoor World Aquarium is stocked with trophy-size stripers, largemouth bass and even a rare Atlantic sturgeon. Fish feeding will take place at 11:15 a.m.
* - Innovative new tackle designs have been spawned by the popularity of the rockfish. At 11:30 a.m., Larry Demmerle and Capt. Herb Gordon of the ’Pretty Work’ out of Virginia Beach, will demonstrate Chesapeake Bay Lures. Chesapeake Bay Lures have revolutionized trolling for rockfish.
* - At noon, Steve Early from the Oxford Laboratory of Maryland’s DNR will conduct a power-point presentation on the health of our Chesapeake rockfish and address the recent concerns about mycobacteria. This is a must-see for all striper anglers and their families.
Who better to speak about stripers than those folks who fish for them for a living?
* - Capt. Matt Marlowe of the ’Working Girl’ out of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland will share his knowledge of the best places to fish and tackle to use, including planer boards on the Chesapeake Bay. ’Trolling for Trophy Rockfish’ is at 1:00 p.m.
* - At 2:00 p.m. our Metro Reservoir Specialist, Jerry Sauter will talk about fishing Liberty Reservoir for big landlocked stripers.
* - At 3:00 p.m., the crew of ’Island Charters’, owned by Capt. Cory Freeman will tackle trolling techniques for spring rockfish.
Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World is located at Arundel Mills just off Route 100 Exit 10 near Hanover, Maryland. There is no charge for Striper Saturday events.
